It seems like they break down everywhere and sometimes in the worst places, like say, at a traffic light or on the freeway. Anyway, in another thread, it was mentioned that full-service gas stations with their constant check-ups might be one solution and also, since full-service has gone the way of the dinosaurs in the US, maybe just getting a frequent check-up would fit the bill. Anyway, I'd also advise that people learn more about the basics of car repair. For instance, if your in high school, it might be wise to take a course.
This comment may run counter to our advocacy on savings because I adhere to the policy of bringing our car for the regular maintenance every 4 months. I have no skills in cars so I just rely on the checkup because it is a disaster if our car breaks down. It would be more expensive that way. And to save me from the hassle of a possible breakdown, I never fail to bring our car to the dealer’s maintenance shop on its schedule.
