I love the Lucky Charms, too. I sincerely doubt that they are any better for you than the soap fruits..err froat soups...fruit loops. (sigh) Other than Raisin Bran I'm afraid I'm not at all crazy about any of the healthier cereals. Unless you can't the Rice Krispies which I like loaded with bananas. Or strawberries, sometimes.
I remember, years ago now, when they released banana flavored Rice Krispies. They were some of the most tasteful cereal that I've ever tasted, and I was very annoyed when they were discontinued. I like Special K, the fruit editions? The peach and apricot one is especially scrumptious, especially when the milk has been given some time to make the hard bits of fruit a little softer? *drools*
Banana flavored Rice Krispies? Why don't I remember that?! I wonder where on earth I was when that was around. I had to have been somewhere because that doesn't ring a bell at all. Huh...Maybe that was only a UK thing? The Special K cereals are good, but I never buy them because I'd be the only one in the house eating them. Which, would be ok, I guess. I'd just rather get something my husband enjoys, too.
I actually try my best not to buy this type of thing whenever possible, because I feel that we are being charged far too much for the things that we buy for our children. I know that the people who make these cereals are very sneaky as well, and make the packaging as attractive as they possibly can whilst showing it to our children - as they will then want it. Also, there is very little by way of nutritional value in cereal, so I much prefer to make things like porridge or something with fruit, as it is much better, and still quite easy to make anyway.
I was just going to say that maybe it was just a UK thing. I was a child at the time - I think around six or seven years old, and they were simply scrumptious, for lack of a better word!!! You can google them. But the fact that they are discontinued and have been for quite some years, also comes up too. I'm still not impressed about this lol. Someone needs to make a website that sells only discontinued goods. Banana Rice Krispies need to be one of the items.
Yeah I've never heard of that either so that's probably what it is. I wish they would make a website with discontinued stuff. People always seem to discontinue the food/beverages I like. It's gotten to the point where I often wait for what I'm currently eating to go away.
That is precisely why I rarely got them as a child, which only makes me want to munch on them today. No nutritional value whatsoever, but I eat other things for that. My mother's version of porridge, however, was instant oatmeal. In my opinion that's not a sight better than the other cereals.
I haven't even looked at them in years. I used to love some of them.. mini wheats, honey combs, honey nut cheerios... but now they would all taste very different to me. My taste buds are now used to real foods and processed garbage tastes like...well, garbage to me lol. It's amazing how we perceive things when we're so used to them. I can't believe I liked that when it tastes so horrible.. so unlike what I remember them tasting like lol.
I know right??? It is so annoying. There are many foods that I like that are still on the market, and way too popular to ever be discontinued. But I don't enjoy any of them like I have enjoyed some of the items that have been discontinued over the years.
It's honey O's for me. While it's not really a kiddy cereal in my opinion it helps satisfy my sweet tooth! Personally I think honey and nut go wonderfully well with cereal, it's pretty surprising how few of these are available at the supermarket where I live.
I also think that the flavoring has changed over the years. A lot of flavors of things that used to taste nice have changed. I heard that it was because of the economy. A lot of businesses have cut back, and so expenditure on ingredients had to also be cut. It was explained better to me lol. Since beginning to drink a lot more water, my body instantly lets me know that sodas and stuff like it does not agree with my system, and the taste is not as satisfying as it used to be, so I know what you mean.
Yes, that's true too. Our signature doughnut place here is a perfect example. They used to be big and gooey and a real treat. I had one maybe a year ago and I couldn't get over how sickeningly sweet it was.. and much smaller and definitely didn't taste the same. That wasn't just my taste buds, there was a definite change in ingredients. I would expect all business to cut corners where they can though.. that's absolutely a part of it. Speaking of soda. Had one of those a little while ago too. Well.. one sip actually, I was curious. Again, tasted revolting to me when once upon a time it was my drink of choice and holy hell it burned!! lol. I can't believe I used to drink it every day, it was like drinking super sweet chemically syrup someone lit on fire LOL. Gah.. the things we get used to.
