I was thinking of getting a laptop table for bed for some of my family members this Christmas but I've heard some stories that most of them are flimsy and would tip over with even the slightest of movement, since they are balancing on cushions instead of a flat surface and probably the materials and designs aren't good enough as well. I'm just wondering if there were any types that were good enough that you guys have personally used and could recommend to me.

I would just use a plain table to be honest, I don't really see a need to buy a specialised laptop table when it is lightweight and compact enough to go on almost any surface (such as your lap, and hence the name!)

If you really wanted one I believe that Ikea does sell some variants for pretty cheap, though it requires self-assembly.

Any sturdy serving-tray with legs that could fit on a bed would do the job, really. If you opt for a specialized laptop table, then you're going to spend a lot of extra money for no particular reason. Serving trays are available for cheap, and they're the exact same trays you would use to serve someone in bed with. I'd consider those a far better option and especially a better value overall.

I haven't used one because I hate using my laptop in bed. But I imagine you can get a good one if you spend enough time looking. Have you tried searching on Amazon? Check out some reviews over there and you might find one that suits your needs. Personally, I use an adjustable desk. It works wonders. I know this isn't what you're looking for but I just want to throw it out there in case you might be interested.

Ah I need one as well. I tend to laze around in bed all the time so having one is really necessary. My back's no longer as sturdy as 7 years ago, when I was still in my teens. Well, I think it would be wise for you to find a laptop table that's around the same size as a breakfast tray. You can also place your laptop fan between the table and the base of your laptop for a more convenient surfing time.

I prefer the one with the cushion because it can reduce the heat from the laptop. I purchased mine from a vendor a long time ago and it still works fine. There are more of them now, and there's even the multipurpose wooden laptop table that anyone could easily just make on their own. I've tried the wooden tables, too, but it's not suitable for my type of laptop at that time. You should consider the type of laptop you have. Do you use it while sitting down, lying down, or standing up? The length of time you usually work on the laptop table or how much time you plan to use your laptop.

I have had mine for over a year now, and I just love it. I don't remember what brand it is, but it cost under $15 at Amazon, although they have them in all price ranges. I helped my friend get hers on Amazon, too, and for the same price as mine, hers has a little light that she can use when she needs it.
Mine has a cushion on the underside, so it conforms to my lap, however I am sitting, and it supports the iPad perfectly.
It also has a little indentation to put a pencil, pen, or stylus in, as well as a round cup-holder area; so it is perfect for eating with as it is for writing on.
Now that I have it, i would not want to go without it, it is just very handy.
