Loyalty cards are all the rage these days. Virtually every store has their own loyalty card. Shop, earn points, get a coupon anytime you want. But for these stores to make enough money to give their customers some kind of reward, it means that they'll overprice some of the products they sell in high volumes. Since they always will find some way to get their money back, I've never bothered to get a loyalty card.

What do you guys think? Are loyalty cards used to dupe people into spending more at certain stores thinking that they'll be getting back some of their cash at some point in the future?

Hmm I never actually gave this much thought LOL But it would make sense, because obviously the more you spend the more rewarding your loyalty card becomes beneficial, and we all love things we perceive as being free.

It a cheap marketing tactic, but can save you some money. Advertisers can pay to have products promoted through a loyalty card and the store can track who to target with demographics and also shopping habits.

It's cheaper than using a marketing company and they can control any vouchers and promotions to areas.
