One of the things that makes your home look finished and adds value are moldings. It seems to be common practice today for contractors to install new flooring but not to install new molding on the wall of the room at floor level. These moldings can be plain or fancy but should be installed to provide a more finished look, as they hide the irregularities presenting the junction of floor and wall. Moldings for this purpose are commonly called baseboards. Moldings are used to frame windows and doors, and wide, fancy moldings are often used at the junction of wall and ceiling. Moldings and picture frames have much in common and their purpose is to showcase a picture or your home. However, molding can also be used to cover a lot of carpentry sins that we amateurs commit.
