Overrated: Without a doubt the most overrated, waste of my 2 hours that I will never get back is LOST IN TRANSLATION, terrible, terrible movie. I agree that Dynomite is highly overrated. I think the Kill Bill movies are overrated. A movie I enjoy, but I feel is a bit overrated is Pulp Fiction.

Underrated: The Hostel movies, Glory, Star Wars:Episode III (is the 2nd best of the franchise), Raging Bull, Casino, and The Pianist.

Over-rated. "The Swan." It was the worst movie I have ever seen. I went with my girlfriend and we walked out of the movie. I was so nasty, and uninteresting. We thought it was suppose to be scary, and it was not scary at all. It was sickening to me. Then I heard on TV that it won awards! When they were talking about it on the news no one mentioned that it was highly sexual in a tasteless way. My friend and I got our money back for the ticket. I don't see how anyone could have liked it.

I must say that the swan was overrated. Especially if you watched the trailers and blogs that were all saying how the movie is great. Well that is one of my worst rated movies of all times.

To me The Shawshank Redemption was overrated. I heard it was so good, a must see movie and so on. When I finally did see it, I was disappointed. Not that it was a bad movie. It wasn't at all. It was a pretty good movie actually. It was just that I had high expectations for it. If I would have come into it, not having any expectations at all, I have a feeling I would have enjoyed it better. I preferred the Green Mile.

    Underrated: Taken and Taken 2.

Nope, I don't care if everyone loves it already. It needs more love.

Overrated: The Avengers and Iron Man. I recently watched The Avengers and I just don't get it. I was bored to tears. I cleaned out the refrigerator while it was playing. I hate cleaning out the refrigerator. I would have turned it off, but my young niece was enjoying the movie unfortunately.

I think one of the only reasons Black Swan got as much buzz as it did was because of the lesbian scenes. I remember in the 80's and 90's it seemed like just about every movie had an obligatory sex scene, but in recent years that trend has gone away. Black Swan on the other hand brought it back big time.

The first "overrated" movie that came to mind for me was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I grew up in the 80's, and I still can't stand this movie. It's so corny and idealized and dorky. Along the same lines, I can't stand any of the Molly Ringwald movies, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo's Fire, Pretty In Pink and the ilk. Lets be honest, those movies were just j/o material for horny guys, packaged up as teen dramas.

Underrated, I'm sure there are plenty I could come up with if I had more time. One of the more recent ones would be American remake of "Dark Water". They totally botched the promotion of this movie, and even the packaging is awful. The trailer has scenes in it that aren't even in the final movie, and to make matters worse, they tacked on some cheesy fake "ghost" CGI effects on the trailer that make the movie look stupid. It's actually a really good movie with a very strong cast, and much more refined than The Ring (it was written by the same author). It's a great modern ghost story that also pulls at your heart strings in the process and ties the real world drama of the main characters into the supernatural occurrences effectively.

A movie I absolutely love and thought was highly underrated was "The Vow" with Rachel McAdams. It's such a great romance! It had me hooked from the first 10 seconds, the story is amazing and the characters are so rich. Also, a movie I absolutely loved but didn't hear that many people talking about was "The Book Thief". What an amazing movie! I didn't read the book and don't plan to - if I cried that much on the movie I'll break down in a puddle of tears with the book... (no, thanks) - but it's an amazing movie!
As for overrated, I can easily say every superhero blockbuster released in the last few years were overrated.

My picks would be Dredd as an underrated movie and Avatar as an overrated one. First off, Dredd is a very good movie with a solid structure, in my opinion, and it really deserves a lot more attention than it got and it should have been automatically considered for deserving a sequel instead of the treatment it got despite garnering a substantial amount of success. Avatar, on the other hand, was so boring and predictable to me, and I didn't even like the visuals that much. To me, the CGI in it was just as good as any other movie's and I really didn't get the praise for it at all.

I think Cast Away was overrated. I watched it once. I love Tom Hanks and all but it was really boring. Did anyone actually like Zoolander? I don't know if it's popular but I don't think it's worth anything. It was so stupid. I honestly can't think of an underrated movie. I guess I'm not really familiar with what movies are rated most of the time.
