    Hello,

    First, I'm in UK. :)

My 14 y/o brother needs a new phone. He's too embarrassed to whip out his 'dumbphone' in school. This is somewhat understandable since all his friends and classmates are walking around with smartphones these days. Since when did people start getting so fancy!?

Our budget is around £150-£200 (though this is not concrete, we didn't set a limit but we'd thought a high-end phone has the potential of being another statistic under theft) , and me being the most technical minded in the family, it's upon me to look for one that he would fancy. Great...! I looked around Gumtree and couldn't find anything desirable. Haven't checked recently, will take a look again - sometimes you can find rare gems there!

I don't know many online shops in UK that sell mobile phones (don't look confused Americans, you call them cellphones!). Any advice? I know I'd probably manage this on my own, but extra knowledge can't hurt. :)

    Cheers.

I am in the US so will not be familiar with the stores that you have to choose from in the UK. I am old enough to remember them being called "mobile phones" though ;)!
I would suggest trying eBay and look for a refurbished one. Make sure that you are purchasing from a reputable seller that has a good return policy (just in case). You could also check your local stores to see if they sell refurbished phones. It will be a lot less expensive than a brand new one and no one will know that you didn't pay full price!

I also live in the United States and am not too familiar with the mobile phones that are offered in the UK however. I do know that there are some pretty neat prepaid phones like flip phones that you can buy using a cheap contract. Some of them are touch phones as well. I would do some research and first find out what company you want to go with. After that I would figure out which phones they offer.

With £200 I think that could already be good for the new Nokia Lumia 501. The new release of Nokia from the Lumia series. It is a very good phone for it's price. It has a 4 inch capacitive screen and 5 MP camera. My favorite part is that it has a windows 8 processor. I am pretty sure that it has already been released in UK late last week.
