Thanks, Diane Lane Yes, fortunately both Visa and MasterCard are accepted everywhere here. I do a lot of online work and get paid via Paypal, so this card would be ideal. I don't always want to transfer money across to my bank account. I love the idea of the card; so fingers crossed I can get my hands on it!
I don't have a bank account and I don't intend to get one. Hats why I have the paypal card. I never have to worry the evil bank 1,000,001 be causes for charging you. Inhave considered a credit union, but the paypal card is serving all my needs, so I'm not going to do it.
LilAnn, just out of curiosity, how does that work?! I thought you needed to have a verifiable bank account to link your Paypal account to? Or maybe that applies to certain countries and not others.
There is something to keep in mind when it comes to get cash back from ATMs. If yours is a debit card, chances are: 1. You may not pay any fee if cash back comes from an ATM branded by your bank 2. You may not pay any fee getting cash back from the cashiers line at some mall centers 3. You will always pay a fee if you get your cash back for any ATM other than your bank's Now when it comes to credit cards, 1. You may not pay any fee from cash back coming from your bank branded ATM, but you may pay additional interests over your credit line. 2. Some banks give you one week to repay ATM cash back before such interests start run 3. Credit cards are not accepted for cash back requests at cashiers lines. So you must better think twice when using your plastic money to get cash back and stick to other cash back mechanisms, including cash back cards that are only a medium to store electronic money, points, miles, or else, no interests or fees attached.
The Debit card company has it set up where they give you bank account information for your card. I don't know how well I'm explaining this lol On my account I have y card linked to it and under the card category. But because you do need a bank account they give the information on a bank account. It's like a bank you never go to or hear from. I guess maybe the account that holds your money after you transfer it to the card is th bank account?
Well, this sounds fantastic, LilAnn! In this day and age of advanced and modern technology, there really is no need to have to go in to your branch. I'm glad for you that you can do it this way. If I had the choice, I'd do exactly the same thing. Thanks for your response, I think I get it LOL
I've used a debit card before on PayPal. Sometimes though, depending on the bank and company you use to have a debit card, it could be dangerous because they could allow overdraft without your permission and then you would be in debt or gone under the number and would have to pay fees.
I would be VERY unhappy about them sneaking in an overdraft without my knowledge! That's just unscrupulous. I have worked hard to pay off and cut up my credit cards because I just couldn't manage them properly, the last thing I need is an overdraft!
That's why this is the only one I have, and I only use it when I have to. Everybody you order from wants a credit or debit card. I couldn't even get Netflix without a card. They wouldn't even accept paypal unless it was linked to a bank. With the prepaid card I never have to worry about hidden fees, and overdraft. It keeps me from going an Neisse shopping spree. Lol
Thanks again LilAnn :) The more I hear about this card, the more I really want one! I'm not sure why I never gave it much thought. Plus I'm surprised I don't see that many people around me who have it, yet they do have Paypal accounts. It'd be interesting to know why they choose not to get one.
I love PayPal and my debit mastercard from them so much I don't even use a typical checking account anymore! I try to make most of my purchases to be signature purchases so I can get that little bit of cashback after the end of the month.
I love using PayPal but hate that sometimes I have to figure out where I'm shopping ahead of time: either the place takes PayPal or it doesn't. If it doesn't then I have to transfer the money to my bank and wait for 4-5 days. Unfortunately, I can't get the debit card. For some reason, even though we are in the US, PayPal won't send the card here. Says we are out of their territory. It's like Amazon. They consider us international when we are clearly not.
I just procrastinated this long. That my excuse, but the truth I should have gotten it so much sooner. It would have really made things a lot easier! Lol I couldn't even order from Amazon because I had no card. Now that I can order from anywhere I can't find anything that i wanted lmao
Oh wow LilAnn, you really like the card, don't you? You've really sold it to me LOL I have toyed with the idea for forever, and until I started seeing discussions around the card and hearing people give it rave reviews, I wasn't totally decided. But now I can't wait to get my hands on one
Lol I really do love it. I refuse to have a bank account because they are all scam artists. They want to charge you a fee for EVERYTHING. It's even common practice around here that if someone writes you a check from bank A and you go to that bank to cash it, they now charge you to cash the bank A check at the bank A, if you don't hav an account at bank A. It's ridiculous. But everyone else is using the debit cards now. You won't get very far without a bank now a days. So I have the convienance of a bank without the fees of a bank. I love it! Not to mention, unless I'm ordering something online, who takes paypal, this is the only way i have instant access
Also, their customer service is pretty awesome and friendly. I have never called and not had someone easy to understand, bright and friendly to help me out. The dispute resolution is fair and thorough and just makes me feel very confident. Wow. We all sound like promoters or something LOL. It's just that much better of an option, in my opinion. At least, it makes me feel safer.
Although I don't really mind using the Paypal Debit Card, my problem is our local banks and their strict policies. Debit cards from foreign entities, meaning those not connected to banks, will be charged more than $4 for every transaction. Balance inquiry will have a separate charge. There are absolutely zero charges when I transfer money above $155 from Paypal to my own bank account so I settle for this method instead.
I was all excited reading this post until I read your post and realized that the Paypal Debit Card is not available in Canada. What a wonderful option that would be. I, too, usually just transfer my money from Paypal to my bank but it takes a few days to get there. Having a debit card would be so much easier. Maybe someday it will be an option in Canada. I am hoping so anyway!
I really like the Paypal debit card too. I find it to be a useful and valuable tool. I also like how you get cash back for spending with the card. I have thought about applying for the Paypal credit card but I think the requirements on that card are a bit stringent and I don't really see the point. I have found the Paypal debit card to be pretty flexible as you can spend more than the balance on the card if it is linked to a bank account. I would recommend the Paypal Debit Card to all those who have or use a Paypal account. It allows you to get your cash faster than waiting for a bank transfer.
I too have a paypal debit card and it's wonderful! I recently purchased a microwave oven and it was a lemon. I paid with my paypal debit card and it went smoothly without any problems whatsoever! Then when it was delivered it wan't working at all. So disappointed I was and had to take it back for a refund locally to Walmart where I got it online on their rollback deals. Well I went to their customer service after checking in with their security and got my refund on my paypal debit card. The transaction was there in an instant! I get paid to my paypal account & like everyone else have to wait for the money transfer to my bank account. With my paypal debit card I can automatically put it on my debit card and use it anywhere I shop. It's fantastic. I'll be watching for the benefits for having a debit paypal card too. Thanks for the tip!
