There is an exception to the buffet pizza though. I liked Say Cheese which we went all the time when I was a kid. It was cheap but also good. Apparently it still exists but only in New York I think.
I don't remember how school pizza tastes. It must have been good since I always opted for it in the lunch line. Better than PB & J's- All in favor of Traditional Pizza being the best say "I"... "I".
Point-of-'Nerder' (nerdy order): It's "All in favor, Say Aye! (All opposed, say Nay)." And I say 'Nay.' Not because 'I don't like traditional,' but because I'm not sure which "tradition" you're talking-about. The true "traditional" pizza was probably more like an open-faced sandwich on unleavened bread. The traditional Pizza Hut pizza (compared to Italian) is kinda like a cheese-&-tomato-sauce pastry. The school pizza was always more like 'microwave pizza' to me.
I have to agree with you. I've only ever ordered from there a few times, because the kids wanted it. I'm spoiled though. I grew up in Chicago where I could find the most delicious pizza any time. Fast food pizza just doesn't cut it for me. Like you said, I'd eat it if it was what was offered, but I'd probably never order it just for myself. Thankfully, there are now a couple places that offer Chicago style pizza in my area. Yum!
I bet it's like eating restaurant-seafood out here in the Midwest after growing-up on the East Coast (where the seafood is fresh & inexpensive ... I imagine/was-told-by-a-friend, having been to the coast only on a brief visit-or-two---born & raised here on the Bible Belt). Or maybe it's like eating grocery-store produce after having been raised on the farm (again, only imagining/told ... this IS farm-country, but I've always been a city boy).
I haven't eaten at Pizza Hut in years, but they used to be my favorite place to get pizza because their product tasted so good. I would have to say that the taste of the pizza has to be a hit or miss thing. I know that can be frustrating, because no one wants to waste their money on food that tastes terrible. I've been seeing Pizza Hut commercials lately and craving one of their pizzas like crazy. Hopefully when I give in to that craving I'll get a good tasting pizza out of the deal and not one that tastes horrible.
I never understood the appeal of places like Pizza Hut, when in most areas, there are usually at least a handful of local mom & pop run pizza joints that put out far greater pizza's and usually at a much better value. A lot of the chain pizza joints have their dough shipped in frozen, and in some cases, they don't even roll the dough out into the pans, it comes in pre-formed. You're basically paying full price for a frozen pre-made pizza. Your local pizza joints on the other hand make their dough daily, so it's fresh every day. I worked at a couple of them in my neighborhood years ago, and they would never use day-old dough for a pizza. At most, they would use up the day old dough for breadsticks, or deep fry it for cinnamon sugar deserts. A pan pizza isn't going to come out of the pan crispy. They have to do an extra step and put it on a pizza stone for a bit to crisp up the bottom. I'm not sure if Pizza Hut does that or not, but even if they do, if they were in a hurry it's possible they still didn't leave it on the pizza stone long enough.
I gave up on Pizza Hut a few years ago. It is absolutely not as it used to be. Back in the day Pizza Hut was the best. There was no competition as far as I was concerned and they had that stuffed crust. Who else could top that? Now when I hear Pizza Hut mentioned, there is no smile on my face. Their pizza is sloppy and definitely doesn't taste the same. We had it delivered on 3 separate occasions and for whatever reason they didn't get the order right. They get 10 thumbs down from me.
I guess it's the failing of the employment-system: 'How much you like or dislike the current quality' has no effect on 'whether or not the employees get paid.' (It affects whether you-&-yours are return-customers, but that's like 'the company-beach losing a few grains-of-sand.') And if you want to complain about the quality, then (unless it's something about customer-service at your local Pizza Hut) your complaint just goes to their 'supplying manufacturer' (where all their pre-cooked crusts and special sauces & cheese & toppings are manufactured).
I really agree with missbishi, it really depend on your local, you may find the old cool pizza that you are used to in a place, but not in another place; well for me I think that depends on their manager or the employees who cook that..
I haven't been to Pizza Hut is sometime, but I didn't like it to much the last time I was there. I completely changed my diet around, so pizza is a no-no for me, unless it's vegan. Eating out as a whole is just not what it use to be. Quality doesn't seem to be the top priority nowadays.
I thought of this thread when I was disappointed by my order of a large stuffed-crust pizza the other day. Usually I can pace myself and only eat half the large-pizza at one time. But with this one ... I'm not sure if it was ACTUALLY a medium (which I can eat one-of no-problem), or if it was the stuffed-crust variety (which I'm not ordering for myself again, just in case), or if my appetite has grown ever since I moved OUT of the low-rent apartment and am living the rent-free lifestyle to which we Boomerangers (from the Boomerang Generation) have grown accustomed ... but (just to make sure), I'll order a regular crust large soon & see if I am satisfied with just half.
Compared to when I think Pizza Hut first came to my town like 25 plus years ago, the quality has dwindled. My family as a kid would go and get these steaming hot pizzas in the cast iron pans. The cheese was just right. they would cut it and serve it to us. I have not gone to pizza hut for a sit down dinner for many years, so I do not know if they serve still. However for carry out. The pizza no longer has that crispy edge. It has been a little more doughy too. But I have discovered that with a lot of food places that what was served when I was a kid has changed now that I am an adult.
I sent them a complaint, and got this reply:Yeah, maybe that's just 'standard carbon-copy' response; but it's good to know that somebody thought of it
