I love it! Driftwood is something that people here do all sorts of things with. Maybe it is because we are situated along a river. I remember when I was a child, the big thing was turning driftwood into planters, candle holders, and who know what else, lol. I was born at the end of the hippie era.
I understand that craze for drift wood.. I have never lived close to any river source.. But I have collected drift wood like crazy and made all kinds of art with those... whenever I have had the opportunity to do so. Here aresome simple uses for branches and twigs..
I think that driftwood horse is lovely. It's not my style personally but it's a really cool organic piece of art. I like how they just naturally used the shape of the driftwood instead of carving into it.
Those are both very nice, Maddie. The berry branches in the moss are interesting and contemporary looking; I wonder what kind of plant they came from. The branches in the second photo make a nice winter decoration. I really like the use of the galvanized pail.
This is a cool piece of wood art. They just look some cross sections of logs and painted them with concentric circles. It's simple but it looks like expensive modern art.
This is pretty cool and probably cheaper than buying a new table. Bundle some logs together and stick a glass table top on them to make a rustic table.
Your post reminds me of our younger days.. We used to slice wood and use them as carom coins. Sandpapering and smoothing them out were the work of the girls while hunting for right sized branches, measuring and slicing them out where the work of the boys. It used to be so much fun to make our own stuff. We used to color the coins with wood stains.
That table reminds me of a cute little birdbath project for the garden that I saw on Pinterest. I can't figure out how to get the picture to display here, but I copied the url link:Log In. It seems simple enough to make if you could get the gourd and the branches.
Here, I made the picture display. That's a really cute rustic birdbath and a good use of materials that are just lying around.
Here's another version of a table from branches. This wall art piece is also nice. These things make me want to take another look at branches before just tossing them out.
That bird bath looks really cool. I guess the birds would like the natural looking stuff than fancy looking bird baths. @ ACSAPA that wall art is very attractive. The moss growing below gives it a natural feel and look. I do love the candle stands too. They make a pretty picture together.
Those look beautiful, and so easy to make! I really liked the white ones in the vase and the one with the birds. It's already Fall where I am, and now that leaves are starting to fall and branches are getting dry, I may want to get a few fallen ones and paint them. Thanks for the tip!
Glad you were inspired by this thread. Do let us know how your project took shape. I do think using these branches in an artistic way really brings nature back into the home. I love the branches with the birds. I have some stalks of wheat spray painted and with birds on them decorating my side tables. I have these tiny plastic sparrows with real feathers making them look real. This was given to me on world sparrow day by someone who saw my photographs. I love those sparrows and so I had those wheat stalks painted and fixed the birds set on them.
