I was shopping in Target the other day, and I bought a blender. I got it home and it wasn't what I expected, so I cleaned it, boxed it up and returned it. The cashier gave me a hard time about returning the item. It took me 30 mins of arguing with her before she called the manager. He asked me why I didn't want it, and I said it didn't work properly. He gave me a long speech, and I returned the item. Has anyone else had problems with returning an item to the store?

I don't normally have any issues and certainly not to that extent. Usually they're pretty nice about returning items actually and at the very worst, giving store credit instead of cash back. The only time they actually argue about returning would be with electronics occasionally.

Normally I do not have any problems with returns, but if I do Is threaten to call the district manager right away. Not cashier nor general manager wants you to take an issue over their heads.

I never knew about the district manager. Usually I just get the general manager and I can get it taken care of, but now I'm going to keep that in mind. Thanks!!!

Wow, I've never had any problems with returning any item to Target. I'm really surprised. He gave you a long speech. Oh brother.

I don't think it was so much the return or the item, it was that it was obviously used. A lot of stores have issues with people buying things that they need for one event, using it and then bringing it back. That's why so many electronics stores went to the 15% restocking fee if there wasn't something actually wrong with the product. People were buying laptops and computers for their kid's big paper and then bringing it back.

The stores can't resell those items and have to eat something on each item.

It's really no different from returning clothing that have no tags.

I usually don't return items, but when I do, it's usually not a problem. You just have to read their policies – they might have a return policy of "no used items", or something of those lines. This is why I always test my purchased items if they work, and if they don't, return it to the store and get something else. When I test it, I don't rip up anything such as the box, I just take it out of the packaging (neatly), and start testing. Once I have confirmed that it is working, I don't have to worry about returning it. I hope your next return goes smoothly!

I have found more and more stores are picky about what they will take back. I do not know why they are so picky, but if they do not want items back, then chance your policy! I had an issue of returning a vacuum I bought my wife. They asked why I told them it was to short. The bloody thing did not even come up to my hip for the handle top!

They will change their policies. Every store at some point will have really restrictive policies to deter the customers that abuse the current ones. Now, this will be a problem for the legitimate returns, but you don't have to worry about giving reasons pretty soon because there are things that you just won't be able to return.

I'm not a regular shopper at Target but I've still never had that type of problem returning a product. I go to Wal-Mart more than anything and they take returns easily. They never question anything, they only ask if I want a refund or an exchange. The only time I even have to wait is if I'm in a long line.
