For drinking, my Fruit Loops and hot cereals we use 2%. It's a little more healthier and not too thin. For baking and cooking it's usually whole. I prefer the fat content for my recipes. I know it may not be the most healthy milk, but the key is moderation. I'm sure people will say no one can tell a difference in milk while cooking. I disagree the wrong milk can change the texture, consistency and sometimes the flavor.
I use semi-skimmed milk for everything, but my husband prefers whole milk in coffee and on cereals. I find skimmed milk far too watery, but semi-skimmed is a good all-purpose milk. I don't use much milk in cooking, so I don't have a problem with it. It has to be fresh milk, though - I can't bear the taste of the long life UHT stuff.
I use whole milk. As skinny as my children are (very tall and very thin) they need all the extra fats they can get. Plus I can't stand how watered down 2% tastes.
I don't drink milk, but I can answer in regard to milk substitutes I use. I like almond milk. Some brands have the thickness of whole milk and a lovely flavor. I've used almond milk in my baking. I love to add almond milk to dishes that require vanilla extract in the recipe . It adds a great boost to the flavor. I'm also a fan of soy or rice milk. I tend to like thinner milks for drinking and using in smoothies.
Actually, if it's good quality organic whole Milk, it's actually better for you then skim milk. This is because it contains more nutrients then skim, because when skim milk is made "skim", it undergoes many chemical processes that dramatically reduce the original healthy content. So I use good quality organic whole milk for coffee and cooking, and soy milk for everything else (I'm slightly lactose intolerant).
When I used to drink milk frequently, I would opt for fat free milk. Then when I was trying to gain weight, I made the switch to whole milk. I actually ended up preferring the taste of whole milk. We don't buy milk anymore, but if we did, whole milk would be my first choice.
I like skim milk, well prefer is the better word. But I usually buy whole milk at the same price, and add water to it. It may sound crazy, but thats how they make skim milk anyway. Its like getting double the milk for the same price.... just sayin'.
I honestly can't taste the difference. I just pick out whatever has an expiration date farthest away in the stores and whatever's cheapest at the time.
I don't notice a difference either. One percent tastes about the same as whole to me. I stick with the 1% because of the reduced fat and calories. I've kept my kids on whole milk because they could use the extra calories.
I used to drink a lot of whole milk, but stopped for a number of reasons. Now I drink 2%. just a little.
I actually don't care any more. I grew up drinking nothing but whole milk and then everything else tasted watered down. We switched to 2% when I was in high school and I rarely used it anyway, so I got used to it. Now, it doesn't really matter what it is. I don't normally drink it straight and it's only in my cereal or baked goods anyway.
I actually prefer whole milk. I don't drink milk regularly, but skim milk, 1%, 2% or whole milk would suffice for our uses.
I only drink whole milk, anything else tastes weird and I can't drink it. I tend to drink a lot of milk and I eat a lot of cereal so the taste and quality is a big thing for me regarding milk.
