Slowing down the ripening speed of fruits?

    Occasionally you may buy a banana bunch at a bargain price. If you store it in a warm place, all the bananas could ripen at almost the same time. Should that occur, you can choose to gorge yourself on bananas for two days and throw away the rest or be a good neighbor and hand out free bananas.

    To avoid that, since you'll be losing money either way are there ways one can slow down the ripening process for some fruits [like bananas]?
