Shower gels normally make my skin break out. For that reason I prefer bars of soap, especially anti-bacterial, over shower gels. I still enjoy finding soap bars that have nice, unique smells and also serve to keep my skin soft and healthy.
I use soap as well mainly because I'm use to it, I have to admit I don't use shower gel very often. And with shower gel you need to use that loofah or it won't lather up right and I don't like loofah. But from the few times I've used it, it doesn't dry your skin out like soap. I probably should start using it again just for that.
I personally use both. Shower gel is a little higher and it does not last as long for me. I like shower gel because there are some scents that are not available in soap. Shower gel also has more varieties then soap does. I like soap because it last longer and a little cheaper.
We actually have both in our home. The girls use shower gel, my young boys use superhero shower gel and my husband uses regular bar soap. I tried to start buying just the shower gel (even the Axe brand for my husband) but he still like old fashioned bar soap. I like the shower gel because it does come in so many fragrances and is much easier to handle with wet hands. I think, in general, the body wash is cheaper in the long run. It lasts for a long time and now you can always find coupons for it in the Sunday paper. I hardly ever see coupons for regular bar soap. For our family it's a toss up
I only have soap in the sink because in the bathtub I always use gel. Even when I am washing the hands in the sink sometimes I reach the shower gel from the bathtub because I feel it's easier to use. I don't care too much about the smell, it's just about how easy to rub and to wash off.
