What stores of the past do you miss? When I was a kid, we had Woolco, Woolworth, Jefferson Ward, Mongomery Ward. Eventually there was Bradlees, Caldor and Clover. All of these stores have some very cool memories for me.

At Jefferson Ward, I bought my first cassette tape. It was Journey. Clover is where I found my first Cabbage Patch Kid. My mother went running from store to store to find one, then called Clover who said they had a few. When we got there I grabbed my doll off the shelf and ran. While standing in line, a woman looked at me and said, "Why did you have to take one of ours?"

I had no idea what she meant. I grabbed a black doll and I am white. I still have her, Gwen Carla--30 years later. As an adult I wonder what the heck that woman was thinking to talk to a child like that. Shouldn't she be happy I didn't notice a difference?

What stores do you remember well, and what is the memory?
