I was recently watching a show about people who prepare for major catastrophes or disasters. Many of them have bunkers where they store food/supplies, etc. One man had a way of storing carrots that I thought was engenious. He had 2-3 big rubbermaid tote bins and he had filled them with damn sand. He had then placed fresh carrots in the sand and kept the Totes in a cool place. he said that he could keep the carrots in there like that for 2-3 months and they would taste just as fresh as if they had just come out of the ground. I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried this before or something similar and has it really worked? I would love a way to store fresh veggies for longer without freezing them.
