I guess whether or not you should get a tablet or laptop would depend on what you are planning to use it for. Though the iPad may have a compatible keyboard, it still wouldn't be able to perform certain tasks that a laptop can. If you are planning to use the device for casual gaming on the go, listening to music, streaming videos on the go and storing a few reminders and notes for yourself, the tablet would serve you very well. However, if you need to be running CDs, playing computer and online games such as Call of Duty, doing work such as typing reports and doing research etc., it would be better if you got a laptop since they process much faster and are capable of handling large amounts of information that would overwhelm the tablet. The tablet shouldn't be seen as a replacement or substitute for a laptop, at least for now. Perhaps as they get increasingly advanced, there might just be the day where laptops are no longer the norm!
I agree with rollybooz, completely! Tablets haven't been built to do the type of heavy computing that laptops are capable of. Well, at least not yet. I love our tablet and our kindle -- they work exactly as intended. But for work related projects requiring resource hogging software, the laptop is our best and only option for now.
Get a tablet. You can surf the web faster as well as do many things you like and normally do faster. It's worth it!
I need both! I use laptop for all general computing needs, but I still need my tablet at times because of it's portability. I can't carry around my laptop at all times.
