To get their customers to test a new service which will eventually make them a lot of money some banks run contests that cost you $0 but can earn you up to $1,000. The odds of you winning are quite slim but what have you to lose if you participate? I won $50 a few weeks ago and all I did was enter my email address and hit submit.

Do you guys watch out for such promotions/contests?

I have never seen a bank in this area run a contest but I have seen when opening a bank account you are paid anywhere from 50 to 200 for opening a new account. Of course there are rules governing getting the payment, but still for the most part it seems worthwhile. I think my credit union may have had a contest around applying for a new mortgage however.
