I have found all sorts of great stuff at thrift stores, from clothing to cook books. They are a great place to go for clothing for kids, even if you just use the thrift store finds as play time clothing. Thrift stores are also a good place for stuff to upcycle. Not everything at thrift stores is used; I've purchased items with tags and in the original packaging and I have also donated stuff with tags that I never used.

I'm glad there are so many of us who know the value of thrift stores. Some of you are right too, some of this stuff is actually brand new and has tags still on them. As I said my parents taught me the value of a thrift store, they found great items there. So, I grew up myself knowing how great they were. I love to sew and go into sewing doll clothes. I learn something from my mother about taking clothes such as gowns or dresses and cutting them up to make other items out of them. So, for me a thrift store could also be considered a fabric store, because I find great fabrics in them for great prices that are yes articles of clothing that I use to cut up for making my own creations.

The Goodwill in my area has caught on to the fact that more people are thrift shopping these days. My local Goodwill has a big display window with fashionably dressed mannequins, glass display counters showing jewelry, fitting rooms with pink mood lighting, designer brand clothes,Lady Gaga music playing in the background. I've noticed the prices of items have gone up in that store too, but I don't blame a charity for trying to make more money to help people. It's just funny how posh Goodwill has become.

It was only a few years ago that I learned to love thrift stores. I have never be able to find any decent clothes for myself, but I have found other items. I have been able to pick up a few designer handbags for a steal.

The local Goodwill has used computers. The school district and large corporation donate their used equipment to the Goodwill. I have picked up some really great bargains.

I actually love thrift stores. Things I can buy for high prices in malls, I usually get them at a much lower price from thrift stores. Of course, there are items you can't buy second-hand. But for most items, I'm okay if they are used as long as they are still in good condition.

There's a thirft shop in Washington called Labels. I absolutely love it. The clothing is of good quality and it is all sort of vintage chic. The prices are unreal. I live in Canada but always go there when visiting family or friends.

I love thrift stores. I have purchased clothing, handbags, decorative items, furniture, games, books, and other items at the thrift stores in my area. Thrift stores are very affordable and sometimes some of the items are new. I believe thrift stores are a great way to find affordable vintage and unique items.

Thrift Shops are a great bargain. I wish I could convince my family of the same. When we lived in the northeast of the U.S. there are similar shops referred to as consignment shops the family was happy to shop in. Your preception of Thrift Shops as being dusty, musty and full of used and sometimes abused items being sold for pennies will certainly change when shopping at a consignment shop. These shops would usually be located in upscale neighborhoods where people give away items they simply didn't like because of the color, style or season. Of course the donors recieved a percentage making the items a little higher at consignment shops, but the items are often worth the deal. Consider looking for Thrift Shops near upscale neighborhoods. I think it will contain upscale "unused" items much like in those consignment shops for even less money.

I just recently went to a thrift shop to buy clothes for the first time and I have to say it was not bad at all. In fact I got some amazing brand name clothing at a great price! I wasn't sure if I could find something worth buying but I realized I was wrong. Most items being sold where barely used, so why not grab the chance to get it in a fraction of the average store price? The best things you can get of thrift shops in my opinion though are books. There are a lot of rare treasures hidden in thrift stores that you are never going to find in a regular bookstore. I believe every book has something to contribute to your way of thinking and language skills. So why not take advantage of thrift store prices to get some more books?

Yes you can get great clothing bargains at Thrift Stores. I remember the first time I encouraged my sister to go to one for sweater tops. She wasn't sure she would find anything nice but found great sweaters some of which were still brand new. Funny thing is now she wishes there were still Thrift Stores in our area so she could get some more sweater tops since some of these are now showing their age. As for books you are so right. I found some great bargains on books as well in the past. Books I had always been interested in reading but didn't want to pay the high price to buy just in case it turned out not to be that good. Buying them in a thrift store took care of this problem I could read the book and not have to worry about the high price of paying for it.

I love thrifting so much we often drive and hour and a half away to go to thrift stores in a bigger city. My son is very well dress and this is where I get the majority of his clothes. I so no reason to may full price for anything. My home is decorated with at the least one thrift store item in every room.

I recently bought a jean jacket from a thrift shop. It was perfectly worn in and only cost 5 dollars so i was very happy. Such an item was best to be bought at a thrift shop, i'd say. I love them!

I have a cousin who used to buy children's clothing at the thrift stores, take it home and clean it up, iron it, and then resell it through the consignment stores. She made a lot of money doing that. Quite often thrift stores have new clothing with the tags still on.

If your family is okay with shopping at consignment shops you should find the ones that are located in your current city and take them shopping in those places.

I generally don't go to thrift stores for clothing items, but I do like to check them out from time to time for decorations, or interesting glasses and plates.

For clothes these days I mainly stick to end of season clearance sales, and just buy everything off season. I'll get $45 shirts for like $5, and they're brand new too - not used. Luckily, there is a Dillard's clearance store near me, where they take all the stuff that was on clearance at their main stores and try to sell it one last time, the prices are incredibly low.

Thrift stores are awesome because of what you could find there if you are careful. I once bought some stuff that would be double the price if i had bought it in a normal retail store, and nowadays i still use that. It's all a matter of searching carefully for quality items.

I still remember my best thrift store finds, a bunch of Japanese art books featuring prints by Hiroshige and Hokusai, a book of Japanese erotic art prints from the Edo period, a kitschy white electric lamp that looks like the Virgin Mary and a giant black wrought iron key, which is a key rack to be hung on the wall.
When you find something at a thrift store that suits your personality, like the Japanese art books,
it's a special feeling ,like the items were waiting there just for you.

    You're very right about that.
Many people fail to realize that places such as thrift stores have items like stop watches and old albums that someone in the world is desperately looking for. Therefore if you truly collect something valuable from thrift stores you can really make a small fortune in my opinion(that is if you dedicate your time to this).

I love Thrift Stores and its a great feeling when you walk out with ten outfits for just a few bucks. I've bought several Express skirts for $3.00 each! :D You never know what you will find. I even bought a pair of Gap capris for $3.00 and found an old joint in the cuff .

There is nothing wrong with buying second hand clothes because your going to wash them when you get home anyway.

I just went to the thrift shop a few months ago when I found a new job. I was able to get tons of namebrand, quality career outfits for an unbelievable price. There were Express slacks for $4.00. There are tons of books and other miscellaneous items as well. It is worth a peek. Some people even go every week.

I love thrift stores as well! You can find so many great things at thrift stores that are just as nice and less expensive than going to the mall. I have found new things there, that were probably just donated from a store, you would be surprised at some of the new things that are in them. I always hit the thrift stores first because you can save so much money THEN I go to places like Marshall's, Ross, T.J Maxx ect... where you're still saving money but of course the things are new.
