I live in an area where there is really little other than Spanish module stores or strictly 'American' wares in walking distance of 5 miles in any direction. I have to make a trek to the Asian market to find some freaking ginger for God's sake. Which I don't mind but seriously??? I digress.

If I'm heading to the Middle Eastern part of town or the Asian market I want to pick up enough to create a specific meal of a region. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to recipes for different meals from different countries that don't cost an arm & a leg or if there's tips/tricks given the type of market you're shopping?

I've found that most ethnic dishes don't cost that much, especially if you incorporate some elements of budget American cooking into the mix. I don't have specific recipes, but I know that most Asian or Mexican dishes are more than affordable nine times out of ten.
