If you have tried getting a ride in Uber or Grab, I’m sure you have noticed that it’s extra expensive compared to the regular taxicab. Now this question – would you continue riding in those expensive cars? When we cannot use our car, we resort to the taxicab which becomes a rare animal during rush hours. And in lieu of the cab, I just take the bus instead of calling a Uber or Grab. I’m not a cheapskate and comfort is my priority but with the extra expensive charge of Uber and Grab, I would gladly take the bus anytime.

I don't know Grab, but I know and I've used Uber and the values are really getting more expensive (my pocket complains once in a while :D). I think service popularity is driving rates up (when in fact they should go down).

Sure. The rates have gone higher, I can attest to too.
I can take public transport, anytime, as long as I'm not in a rush to work or met someone important or heading to the airport. Uber drivers are specialist who know to avoid traffic and every root of the roads to do so. It's a private means and also comfortable and 24/7 hours available. So, to avoid all these I choose Uber. All I'm saying, it deserves it..but that shouldn't give them other reasons to raise a higher rate frequently. About Grab, I'm yet to hear it maybe because it's not in my country yet:(

I have never heard about Grab either; but we do have Uber here, although I have never had to use it. We do not travel very far, and even though our car is old, it still gets us where we need to go.
However, I know of an older man who decided that he didn't want to drive anymore; so he sold his car and just relies on Uber when he wants to go somewhere.
He said that he is able to order most of the things that he needs online; so he doesn't need to travel as much, he doesn't have to make a car payment, or worry about vehicle maintenence , or paying if rear insurance every month; so he said that it is actually as cheap for him to use Uber as it was when he drove his own vehicle , and there are none of the problems associated with owning you own car.

Well, I don't know how it works over there at your place, but where I live, we only had Auto rickshaws for our city travel a few years back and they used to charge way more than they were actually allowed to charge as per the meter prescribed however then Uber came into the play and now I can go from one end to the other end of my city much more comfortably and in just half the price I used to pay for the auto rickshaws.

I haven't actually taken a ride at Uber or Grab but I have two neighbors who bought a brand new car on installment and are paying them off by enlisting with Uber. They seem to be doing well in spite having to pay Uber a fixed fee each day that they're out on the road. I guess people have gotten tired of abusive regular taxi drivers who overcharge passengers and tend to be choosy on their destination. On the other hand, Uber offers more comfortable vehicles and a monitoring system that makes it more convenient to call for a ride. I would also feel safer with Uber than with regular taxis. It's just normal that you pay for those extras. Thankfully, I've never been in a situation where I needed to call/text Uber.

I think these services are sold on experience. As in these cars have the AC and music on. Which makes you pay more for such luxury. Normal cabs don't have that type of the feature. And it makes you wonder if you can make use of the less cost cab instead. I think people with that sort of luxury life can afford it. I can't think of any way I can afford them for short distance in my city.

When I was in Seoul, South Korea, the subway was actually an adventure to ride. In fact, sometimes I would just ride it to see various parts of the city. Anyway, of course, I have no problems taking a subway - as taking cabs are often too expensive and reserved for towns or small cities where you might be stranded late at night - as the buses shut down - or at least, that was the experience in South Korea.

I have used Uber before and I can say that they have been getting expensive over the years and I have never heard of Grab. Uber has mainly been expensive as it is now the dominate force in the industry. Taxicab is not that bad but also really rushes you and can get as or more expensive than an uber. I like uber as it is more higher quality and gets you to places faster than a taxicab. Although I would understand that it works differently in certain countries.

Uber ride is more expensive than the local taxi this has been the complain of many especially the low workers who do not have that robust budget for transport. I use Uber occasionally especially if I can't get any of the local taxi and time running out. The management of this popular transport company ought to find a way to narrow the price differences between Uber and local taxi. I think this will be more advantageous to the company as more patronage is sure.
