I get where you’re coming from Denis. In fact, I have a bunch of other stuff I should be doing today instead of browsing here :D

It’s true that it really all comes down to self control, but I sometimes need a little extra help so I use an extension like

for Google Chrome. It lets me set an amount of time that I can waste on websites like tumblr, twitter and such, and once I’ve hit my time limit I’m locked out which means that I may as well get some work done. Of course, you need the self control to set these up in the first place!

Studies have shown that the internet is rewiring our brains for shorter attention spans and for some of us we need extra help to get some actual work done….and with that said, I should probably go get to work!

I simply remain focused on what I am trying to achieve on the net. I get irritated when suddenly another window opens automatically, trying to distract me. I don't pay it any attention. I stay firm on my track to solving whatever I need to solve on the internet.

I used to lose production time when online by being distracted on other sites. I have a bit of a ritual in which I check email, check my favorite sites for updates and new content and see what funny new videos are making the rounds online. I do all of that before doing any work, unfortunately.

I've learned to control it a bit, I don't check my email hourly anymore and I no longer maintain a social media profile daily. I also run Netflix movies in the background and only switch over when a good part is coming up. That might sound strange but I call them mini-movie breaks, they keep the mind fresh.
