For those who travel often and depend on smartphones as one of the main sources of information, what apps do you use during your travel?

I am particularly interested in the budget apps, hotel apps, and restaurant apps. But if you have others you can highly recommend please list them, too including the OS platform (IOS, Android, Windows, or Blackberry)

With the wide array of available apps, it can be overwhelming to test each one of those just to figure out what works and what doesn't. I trust actual users like you more than the paid online app reviews. Thanks in advance.

There are many tourist guide app for both android and ios. Some countries have made thier own travel apps to encourage and attract tourist. If you want to explore the place on your own you should a have Map application. I think Google Map is quite good. I sometimes also used a Currency Converter app. Some of the app I found on the internet includes TripIt, GateGuru and Kayak though I have not used them yet.

Tripit is pretty good, especially if you're prone to forgetting things. It doubles as an itinerary organizer in conjunction with destination locator/recommender. If I'm not wrong it's on both iOS and Android!

I only travel about once a year for personal reasons and love finding great deals. I use the hotel.com app, priceline, groupon and trip advisor. I scour all of them to see where I can find the best deal on tickets, hotels and cars and also use group on and trip advisor to find discounts on activities at my destination.

I have never heard of getbustour, but like I said I love using my phone to find deals on travel and leisure. Thanks for sharing it, I go to Cancun in a couple of weeks and I want to see as much as I can while I am there. I will be sure to try your app out in Mexico.

I use Tripadvisor a lot, and also Expedia and Booking. I have been looking for hotels for my holiday trip with my boyfriend and Booking seems to have the best prices right now. Also, I enjoy Tripadvisor for comments and customer photos.

I use trivago for booking and for information I usually use tripadvisor for specific cities.
I only use android, so I am not sure if the apps are available in ios.

Well, I always use Google Maps and Compass on iOS. I also have TripAdvisor for different countries. TripAdvisor is a really important app because it has everything - from reviews of restaurants to maps. :)

For hotel booking I really recommend AGODA even though it's not an app but Travel booking sites often make a price difference between iOS/Android/Computer anyways so if you want the cheapest price booking from a computer is the best option
And for restaurants etc. I really recommend TripAdvisor. They have a variety of restaurants listed around the world.
For apps to keep track of your budget I recommend Toshl Finance!
Also as a little extra info, never use google maps in not highly populated countrys/city's. These countries often offer map apps themselves that won't lead you to a library when you actually wanted to go to a restaurant.

I would use Google maps a lot and GPS, it's very necessary lol. I also use bank app to check my balance if I would be using my debit card. I think it's very necessary to actually have the apps I've mentioned because they can help a lot to see what's your progress. I have used TripAdvisor before but I don't know if it's for me since I don't really like going out to a lot of places that I've just figured out through the internet.

Yeah agreed with both of you Google map always serve the tourists and helps a lot. That let us know massive information about any place or region, no matter how far is it from you.

I still have to use apps for my travel needs. We travel often, abroad and domestic, and my only way to buy tickets or get accommodations is to Google it. This year we had been to Beijing and Kuala Lumpur with assistance from those websites that offer accommodations. It's a good experience though. But I will not check on the apps that I should be using.

Google is everybody's friend and have lots of apps for travel and tourism. you will get a list by just asking once. I mostly prefer to book online and they do arrange everything for me.
