I usually keep them, they don't really take up that much space as you said. And you never know when you may need it. I did sell some of them though, some old phones and old PC parts.. I still have my old Siemens and Sony Ericsson phones, though.
I give everything away. Even if they don't work, people could use them for parts to make a profit. A few extra bucks won't change my life and I don't need the clutter.
I like to keep older phones for kids to use. There is no way for me to justify a 8 year old using a iPhone. Therefore, I keep all my classics and give them away to my family and friends. If they don't need it then I donate to some kids charity. I make sure that there are enough minutes and service for a year.
If I like the gadget I usually keep it as a memento. If I don't care about the gadget I usually gift it or if it's not too old I'll sell it.
I have an old cell phone that I still use just as an alarm clock and may turn back on eventually we'll see... but I can relate to the old broken lap tops. I have about a couple of them that I was thinking I'd get fixed eventually but one of them would be $259 to fix and for that I could get another lap top ( on sale) I also have a PC modem that needs to be fixed ( again) which is ridiculous that has been sitting in my closet for several years and I'm wondered what to do about all these electronics myself. Could recycle but worry about ID theft but I'll look it up ways to eliminate that.
You would be surprised in how many different ways you can repurpose and find a new task for your old electronics. Old Android devices make for a great audio player or portable gaming devices, you can turn any smartphone into an alarm clock or Skype phone, or try one of these creative ideas for old mobiles. Your outdated iPad – or any other tablet for that matter – could be turned into a digital photo frame. Ask your family and friends whether they need your outdated devices or post them on sites like Craigslist or Freecycle where someone else may find them useful. Not only can you easily relieve yourself of your old junk, you can also get free stuff! The noblest way to dispose of your old stuff is to donate it to a good cause. This not only works for furniture and clothes, but also for electronics. Many places collect old computers to repair and turn them into working machines for schools. You can also donate your cell phone and help others in need.
I gave away my old laptops. There is always someone that can use them. Plus I don't like to try and sell them online because I likely reformatted them at some point and don't have all the original backup discs and such. In some cases I might have been using a copy of Windows on them from another computer, because I lost my original backup discs for it. I wouldn't want some stranger I sold it to on the internet complaining if they happen to get locked out of Windows because of it.
Agreed. It's always nice to have a backup. You never know when your smartphone will flake out on you and you are left not having anything to put your sim card in. I at least have a few old phones I can use just in case.
I generally keep old gadgets if they work. It's hard to sell these days so I've been waiting to find a good deal. I tried to sell my phone to a few companies. I would feel bad selling it to a regular person because though it works, it annoys the crap out of me. I wouldn't want to put it on someone else unless maybe I disliked them or something. It's a shame though that I spent 100 dollars on it. I try trading it for a new one. It has no value (I wonder why) I tried AT&T first since it's from them. It's so stupid how they sell a piece of crap, then you're screwed. I now use it for Swagbucks mobile.
