I have 3 sets of old license plates that I've had for years and every time I look at the I wonder what am I to do with them. I don't want to throw them away for fear that they might be used illegally. I thought about recycling them but I don't know if that is even legal. Does anyone know how to dispose of old license plates?

I have seen people make crafts out of old auto plates. I also have a few sets just sitting around collecting dust. A quick google answer is to surrender your tags to the Department of Motor Vehicles for cancelation.. That makes sense, then you would not have to worry about any one using your tags.

One way to make extra money, and therefore save on your bills, is sell your plates on Amazon or eBay. People might collect them, especially if they are unique. Anyhow, though, most people don't have used plates, technically. They simply renew a sticker. That's the procedure in my county in the US.
