Do you just put the standard lettuce and salad dressing or do you add veggies, fruit, meat, cheese, etc?

I'm vegetarian and for the most part vegan, so I add any veggies and fruit I have that would go well with salad, and I use Catalina dressing. Sometimes I'll use a salad mix that has lettuce, cabbage and carrots but sometimes I'll use kale instead of lettuce. Usually, if I have any, I slice tomatoes on the salad or I put cherry tomatoes in it and some mandarin orange slices.

So, what is your salad like?

I use a lot of sprouts, especially green lentil sprouts ( 2 days of growth). Veggies, nuts, sesame seeds, tomatoes and flax seeds, sunflower seeds all go into it. I love apples, figs, pineapples and avocado in my salads too. I often use a dash of fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper with extra virgin olive oil as a salad dressing. Coconut oil works well too.
For a change I use coconut cream with salt and pepper.

My dad makes a wonderful salad consisting of romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and very thinly sliced apples and cucumbers. He uses vinegar and oil for dressing. I love the simplicity of it. When I am making salads at home, my base is usually spinach. Sometimes I will add some chopped cabbage or lettuce. My favorite toppings that help to fill me up are chopped walnuts and avocadoes. I eat meat, but I am not a fan of adding meat to my salads. I will need to try out some of these other options!

I enjoy a variety of salads, but I never use salad dressing or any other toppings. One of my favorite salads is a Pineapple, Honeydew, Mango, Ginger, and fresh herb salad I found online at

I'm a huge fan of those new garlic & ginger fried wonton strips they sell now at the grocery store. Those with some mandarin orange, green onions and sliced almonds are great. I will usually top it with rice vinegar and peanut oil as a dressing. I'll throw some grilled chicken on there too if I have any on hand. Otherwise I'm pretty traditional with my salads (tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, cheese, crutons and dressing). One thing I tried and didn't like at all was Tuna, which is strange because I like Tuna in general. Although I do enjoy that imitation crab meat on salads from time to time, especially with some french dressing over it.

I like the usual suspects such as lettuce, cucumber, tomato and onion. I'll also add beetroot, sweetcorn and peppers, along with sliced raw mushrooms. To go with it, I make my own coleslaw, so that's a big plate of salad vegetables to get through. I'm not a fan of prepared salads - they always seem to have too much dressing, or not enough variety of vegetables for me.

Even though I'm one of the often-hated high metabolism folks, I've always enjoyed salads. If I'm really hungry, I go to the deli at my favorite local grocery store and get a fried chicken cobb salad, and I dress it with cracked pepper and balsamic vinaigrette. I know salad is supposed to be healthy and this one includes fried chicken and hard-boiled eggs, but the topic is salad, and I've found few better than this one.

My other favorite - much healthier but just as delicious - is a split Romaine heart dressed with a very high-quality pomegranate balsamic vinegar from a local specialty store. I'm not talking about supermarket balsamic vinegar - I'm talking about high-quality balsamic vinegar that is more akin to a syrup than a liquid (like the supermarket stuff). Half of a heart of Romaine, a generous drizzle of the balsamic, and a couple of twists of cracked black pepper, and you are in a for a real treat.

I usually make a salad with chicken, green or red peppers, blueberries or dried cranberries, and tomatoes on a bed of spinach or arugula. Once, though, I made a salad with kale and peaches and it was awesome.

It really depends and it varies from day to day. For the most part I rotate the following ingredients: cheese, olives, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, bananas, almonds, spinach leaves, grilled salmon and cranberries. I don't use the toppings all at once.
