I love to cook with onions. I put onions in just about everything. Well, maybe not cakes and pies, lol, but just about anything else. I think onions add flavor to everything from stews to casseroles. If I don't have any on hand, my cooking seems to be a bit less tasty. Is there a food you "must" have when you're cooking or baking? What ingredient or staple is always at the top of your shopping list?
A while ago I bought some generic creole seasoning from Walmart, and it's absolutely delicious and I feel the need to put it on everything I cook. Shrimp? Better make it creole shrimp. Rice? Creole rice it is. Mac and cheese? You can bet your bottom dollar that it's gonna have creole seasoning in it.
Bread - When I'm not making sandwiches, I still like to have some bread with just about whatever else I am eating, especially pasta dishes. Fresh garlic - Although I also like powdered garlic and have nothing against using it, there is a time and a place for both. I wouldn't even think of making a homemade pasta sauce with powdered garlic, but I love it on home fries. Canned Tomatoes & Chicken Stock - I use these in a majority of my meals in some fashion or another. In addition to making pasta sauce, I will poach eggs in the morning in some crushed tomatoes with some fresh garlic, olive oil and a little red pepper flakes. I use chicken stock in my soups (obviously) but also when I am making rice (in place of the water), or even boiled potatoes. El Pato spicy tomato sauce/salsa in a can - This is like my go-to ingredient for anything Mexican. I use it in rice, but I also use it as the "sauce" for grilled chicken, ground beef, steak, whatever, when I am making tacos or fajitas. Eggs - I have eggs every morning in some manner or another.
