I guess this is a bit subjective. I have a bank credit card and my particular bank offers a wide variety of cards depending on what your needs are. Some are no fee and others are not. There are also cards that are tied to a specific company or chain. I have one particular card that is connected to a very large retail store and I use it only at that store although it is acceptable all over. I am in Canada. Plenty of options when it comes to cards.
