I could probably name quite a few, both home cooked and fast food. Generally speaking, Italian food of all sorts is big time comfort food to me - so something like a bowl of Cavatelli and Meatballs with tons of Romano Cheese on it would be right up my alley. I even love it cold as leftovers. Pizza or leftover pizza is a given, I think pretty much everyone loves that. I'm also a fan of mashed potatoes as well. I make them a variety of ways depending on what mood I am in. If I want a richer mashed potato, I will bake them in the oven with the skins on for about an hour and a half or until they are super tender, then run them through a potato ricer into a bowl with the milk, butter and seasoning. This method is convenient since you don't need to peel or chop the potatoes at all, the skin stays inside the ricer. It also retains all of the starch though so you may need to add a little extra milk than you normally would use. If I want a lighter fluffier mashed potato, I will peel, chop and boil them to remove the excess starches, then whip them up with a mixer. Other than that,I would say breakfast food is my other big comfort food. Especially after a hard night of drinking, I cannot wait until it's time for breakfast so I can make a big plate of eggs and home fries and toast and other stuff.
I have so many comfort foods. Most of them have already been mentioned: scratch mashed potatoes with cheese and fried bacon, all carbs, pancakes with extra butter/syrup, fried bacon with wheat cheese toast, baked macaroni and cheese with 3 cheeses, pasta, chicken pot pie with no green peas, Belgian waffles, sour cream, cheese, Mexican foods, baked casseroles with seasoned bread crumbs, fried fish, fried chicken, birthday cakes, Krispy Kreme donuts and brownies with ice cream and extra nuts and hash browns with cheese and onions. I'm hungry just thinking about it! I love the Autumn time of the year when I can bake, cook in the oven and crock pot more often as it gets colder.
My favorite comfort food would have to be potato chips or ice cream and apple pie together. It always seems to make me get all in a comfortable, relaxed and cheerful mood. So whenever I'm not too much in a good mood, my mind is overworked or I just have the munchies, I always go to those foods.
My absolute favourite comfort food (and I comfort eat a lot due to having bipolar) is a chicken burger and chips meal from my local chicken shop takeaway. I know it is bad for me, but for a brief moment it makes me feel better and I watch what I eat for the remainder of the week.
It's Fish Fish soup is one of the best comfort foods I have ever observed. I prefer boneless fish than other raw sea creatures. Serve it spicy for maximum effectiveness. If fresh fish is not available, then just spicy soups. Some people find the spice to be the source of comfort, but nothing too heavy so that the stomach won't get upset. For comfort food, I stay away from coconut milk and heavy creams. I also enjoy smoothies with tasty fruit chunks, so I would want to have both when I need comfort food. Since I enjoy cooking, I consider processing them to be part of the comfort.
I have two comfort foods. One is sweet and sour chicken with noodles and the other one is baked beans over rice. I use to eat nothing but sweets as comfort food but since I have stopped eating so much junk food, I turned to those. I really do not have to worry about gaining weight from eating anything because I have high metabolism.
When I am feeling down, I would rather not eat anything. So I don't have a comfort food when I am sad and feeling a little depressed. When I eat a lot is when I am happy or feeling excited. When I feel this, I immediately turn to bread for comfort or to accentuate my feelings, and I would just really feel great. So I would say it's the bread.
