I'll have to go with Subway as my favourite since there aren't many other choices near where I stay anyway. I love the wraps at subway over the breads especially with roasted chicken breast, cheese, all the veggies (especially olives and onion!) and some honey mustard! They are not just tastier but also less messy! However, it seems as if prices at subway are constantly on the rise as compared to when they first opened. Nowadays, I make my own sandwiches at home whenever I can to save some. At least if I wanted to add more ingredients in my sandwich, the price wouldn't be stopping me!

I live in SC and we have a Palmetto's Subs. It used to be called Sub Station II, which I still see some of those around too. They have great subs and salads. I prefer them over Subway.

I never did understand why they have been jacking up the price of their subs lately either. It's not like they are using premium lunch meats or anything, and they're really skimpy with the amounts. Most of the meats they use in their cold cut combo is all made from turkey, including the bologna. Places like Jimmy Johns put way better meat in their subs and more of it for about the same price.

I like Subways, but I'm not much of a sandwich person. Subways is one of the best alternatives to NY style delis, because its healthier and fresher.

I love Subway sandwiches, they are good, I try to make something similar but they taste the way subway does. We also have this restaurant in my town called American Deli they have great food too.

Definitely Subway! I love their sandwiches. I basically put all of the veggie choices on my sandwich and I used to get swiss cheese on it too (I'm sort of vegan now). And some kind of condiment, usually just mustard. I'm a huge fan of veggies so I just pack my sandwich with as much of everything as possible, lol.

Well, I like a ham and turkey sandwich on wheat bread. Toasted with cheddar cheese. I like lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles on it followed by lots of Subway honey mustard, lite mayo, a dash of ranch, and salt & pepper. Yummo!

Like the person that started this thread, I am from a small town. I haven't lived there since 2004, but there is a small local deli that I make it a point to visit every time I'm in town. It's a really cool place - rough hewn wood, no two tables the same, tons of very eclectic art on the walls, and my favorite Texas beer on tap. That's enough to make a visit to the Big Apple Deli worthwhile, but my reason for going back time and again is a sandwich called "The Doc." It is hot roast beef (almost like pot roast) smothered in the best brown gravy I've ever had served on crusty artisanal bread. I better stop talking about this lest I drool in my keyboard:)
