Even dairy can be harmful? That's the 1st time I heard of that. I realized that since I love pasta and foods that are rich in carbohydrates, maybe it is the main culprit for my increasing belly. I didn't know that they can be addictive.
I'm a big fan of cold pasta dishes and i'm also very partial to spinach pasta. I make this one dish with spinach pasta, shrimp, tomatoes, spinach leaves and capers. I chill it for about an hour, then add Parmesan cheese and olive oil. To be honest, I love any pasta dish. Has this been proven? I'd love to learn more. What do you replace wheat with? It seems like a large part of our diets are centered around wheat/gluten.
Wheat today is not the same wheat our ancestors knew. Today's people are generally unwell (or worse) and fat.. think of everything we eat in comparison to those before us. We eat many foods that didn't get to our plate in any sort of natural way and our bodies don't know how to work with them. They DO work with them.. but not without consequence. Wheat is one of many culprits.. you can live with it forever, but you won't be at your best. Others will suffer consequences off the hop and not attribute it to wheat. it's very difficult to cut it out when you're accustomed to the diet most people eat these days, but most people will feel better for it and their health will either improve or won't go where it was headed as they age. That also depends on whatever else they eat too though. If you eat a diet high in processed foods, there may be a change or not, but you will still likely get more unwell the older you get. That isn't just a part of aging.. my grandparents died healthy people, they didn't eat like most people. We all die one day regardless, so it's up to you what you do to your body. But the cleaner it is (and wheat is not clean), the better you'll feel and look. And hopefully for much longer.... keep eating today's diet of non foods and you're heart will let you know the hard way. There are alternative flours.. you'll have to relearn how to cook though lol, they don't act the same as wheat. eating right these days is made much harder by the big guys and it's especially hard for the convenience crowd, but if you ever decide to go clean, you will love how you feel and look and you'll eventually look at what you eat now and see it for what it is.. and you won't be happy you did that to yourself.
As with anything, you should look these things up yourself. Many people are happy to take chances with foods and others not so much. You can also find just as many for something as against. It's up to you. Milk is one of the most unnecessary parts of the current diet.. and guess why it's pushed on us? look up what's really in there and the absolutely revolting process it goes through from the poor tortured, filthy cow to your stomach.
One of my favorite types would have to be the Penni pasta with onion and tomato and spinach just grilled and cooked in olive oil. Of course I can't forget the parmasian cheese on top. I can never get enough of this dish which is why I always try to eat it in the restaurant because at home I just wouldn't stop eating(haha).
I'm half Italian, so pasta is a staple in my household. I would never be able to stick to a low carb diet, lol. But as long as you are sticking to eating everything in moderation, I don't believe it to be an issue. I've had mixed results with the whole grain pastas, some of them have a very strong flavor and color to them that I don't like at all. However I have tried some that look and taste just like regular pasts - Whole Foods brand whole wheat pasta is really good (I'm almost wondering if it's not really whole wheat, or perhaps some deceptive labeling). I love a simple marinara on spaghetti most of the time. The Marcela Hazan recipe with just onion and butter is a good one, but I usually make a simple red sauce from scratch.
I vote deceptive labelling lol... as with probably most of the items in your fridge and cupboard Italian here too.. trust me, dropping the wheat felt impossible, I hear you..
I like lasagna, spaghetti with marinara, penne, macaroni baked in cheeses, tortolini, rotini in pasta salad... just about anything with vegetables and or cheese. I don't like meat sauces, but I occasionally eat pasta dishes with fish or shrimp, or even crab or scallops. Even plain spaghetti tossed with garlic or lemon sauce or with pesto is good.
Sometimes when I am in a hurry, I will make a really simple pasta with chicken and vegetables in my pressure cooker. I will throw a sturdy pasta in such as rotini or penne, then add some chicken broth and olive oil. I will toss in a few chicken tenderloins cut up into pieces as well as some sturdy vegetables. You only need to cook everything for about 5 minutes - anything longer will turn the vegetables to mush and they will lose their color. I will then add some parmesan when I plate it. Pressure cookers also work good for pasta with frozen meatballs and a jar of premade sauce.
I'm not really that big of a fan of pasta, but I do get cravings once in a while, and I would almost always prefer to have lasagna if I could. It's just a shame that it's expensive and requires a bit more effort to make, but I guess it's for the best since if it were more accessible I'd weight 400 lbs by now.
Yes, there are plenty of studies which have revealed the harmful effects of wheat. We know wheat makes you fat because it is highly insulinogenic and it is easily stored as fat. It also messes with your hormones and your fat storing switch will be 'turned on' constantly. 'It seems like a large part of our diets are centered around wheat/gluten.' - that's exactly the reason so many are obese and sick. Replace wheat with fat, protein and vegetables, the food we are designed to eat.
Not true. Wheat is very bad for you, period. Would you take heroin in moderation? Would you drink poison in moderation? Wheat is one of the worst foods you can eat, we are only starting to realise the damage it causes both physically and mentally (it is now strongly linked with brain diseases). I would rather avoid a food that is toxic to my body. Whole wheat is not really good.
I actually loathe the first person that told the people "in moderation". I hear it used all the time, when what they mean is "I can't".. which I'd much rather hear than "a little poison every day is fine" lol. It all adds up.. wheat isn't the only bad thing people eat. Just imagine every meal, every snack, every drink.. added up every day. Not good.
Exactly, people think it doesn't cause damage because they might not notice any bad signs instantly (some do). Damage accumulates over many years, decades, until you reach a point where you succumb to disease and die prematurely. All humans die prematurely, dying at 70 is a premature death, dying at 100 is premature, humans can live a lot longer under optimal conditions. The everything in moderation motto is usually adopted by fat people in denial.
