Thrift stores! Garage sales always seem to be over-priced because people tend to have an emotional attachment to the stuff they're selling.
I find that I save more money at garage sales because people are always trying to get rid of their stuff and if it is at the end of the day they are willing to give you things for free or a whole box of stuff for $5. Today I went to a library sale and got The Sopranos Seasons 1 & 2 sealed for $5 with a bunch of other stuff.
I prefer thrift stores because I like that there's usually more variety. Garage sales here usually only have things in one size for example, whereas thrift stores you can get things in multiple sizes. I like that you can often try things on in thrift stores here too whereas you can't always do that at yard sales. You're therefore taking a bit more of a risk buying from garage sales in my opinion.
I like going to garage sales and thrifts shops. The down side with garage sales is they are seasonal. I usually check listings for them. Thrift shops have become a norm for me so I space out the time I go thrifting allowing time for the new inventory. I like to meet the people and you can find out history of items they are selling you can't get that in thrift stores.
I'd choose thrift stores over garage sales anytime of the day. You have more choices when you buy at thrift stores, whereas if you go over garage sales, the options are rather limited and they're usually displayed in a topsy-turvy manner so it's kind of discouraging to look at.
I enjoy shopping at both thrift stores and garage sales. I know that thrift stores can carry a variety of things. Then again some pretty unique things can be found at a garage sale. The last garage sale I went to had fur coats on sale for $ 50-70. I am always looking for yarn no matter where I am. Sometimes I get lucky at the thrift store in the section where they have books and toys.
I enjoy thrift stores more than garage sales. I have found and bought many nice and great stuff at thrift stores before. Most of the time, I just stop at a garage sale but only out of curiosity and not with the intention to actually buy something. You also have more choices to chose from at a thrift store in comparison to a garage sales.
They are both sources of good stuff at bargain prices so I don’t prefer one over the other. The only difference between the two is that garage sales are irregular while thrift stores are permanent. In any case, I love going to them because I enjoy the feeling of being surprised. Like that one time when I came across an old an early edition of Frank Herbert’s book called Dune. Good times.
I prefer thrift stores because the clothes usually seem cleaner, easier to browse, more variety, there are usually fitting rooms, and there is way less pressure on the shopper. I feel like people having garage sales always hover around their visitors, haha. Garage sales can be good for decor and collectibles, but I don't think I've ever found good clothes there.
