I know there are quite a few solar powered products. Yesterday, I came across a solar oven. I own a solar powered calculator. Now, I am wondering if any wind-powered products exist. Do they? What are they?

I am a fan of technology like this, because I find it exciting and fascinating to see advances in technology like this.

It's rather unfortunate, but I've been hearing of various reports of those giant fans that capture wind and turn it into electricity causing problems in various communities. One of the companies was fined for killing bald eagles recently, and I think in another community people were injured when the blades broke off of some of them in a storm.

That said, I would imagine there are safer ways to take advantage of this. It mainly seems to be a matter of does it cost more money and energy to maintain and build them than what they are worth?

They should have encased the blades is in some protective cover that would prevent the blades snapping off and hurting people. The same would apply to preventing the killing of birds that fly close because then they'd not get close to the blade. But back to the OPs thread:

NO I don't think that at the moment there are any wind-powered products and if they were to be invented, developed, etc then you'd have to live in a very windy place to use them. Few places on earth are that windy so because they wouldn't profit from that [a limited market], companies won't bother trying to create such products.

Wind farms should generally be pretty far away from communities and civilization in general, not just for safety reason but they're generally just an eye-sore anyway.

I agree with Denis. This is still relatively new technology and companies are still figuring out the kinks that come with it. As for wind powered products, I doubt there would be many consumer based ones because I don't think smaller gadgets would generate enough to be significant.
