    I think I am going to purchase this as a gift for a friend. Do you think it will be a popular version of the game? I never played WoW, that's why I am asking :)

    If your friend already plays WoW, then yes.... although that also means they probably already bought it. In order to continue on with the game, you need the expansion at this point.
